Puff Sleeve Cutting Method

In the previous session, we learned about the regular sleeve cutting.
In this session, we will learn about the designer and the unique puff sleeve cutting method with measurements.

Required Measurements For Puff Sleeve Cutting Method:

Here is the method to take body measurements.

• Sleeve length – measure from the shoulder in the hand till the length is to be kept
• Sleeve round(mori) – take a hand measurement in the round where the length of the sleeve is reached
• Width between sleeves – take the measurement in the round, as much as the arm measurement is more
• Armhole round – take the measurement in the round, at the shoulder, and arm

Method:

• To cut a puff sleeve, first you have to do a paper cutting of a regular sleeve.
• Then, we will see how to add puff to make a puff sleeve.

Steps with the figure:

• Let’s take an example with measurements as given below:
  • Sleeve length: 11″
  • Sleeve round(mori): 10″
  • Width between sleeves: 14″
  • Armhole round: 16″
• Firstly, we will cut the regular sleeve according to this measurement, as seen before, learn from figure(a).

• Further, we will add puff after this sleeve is done in paper.
• There are different ways to add puff to the sleeve.
• First is adding puff only to the upper part of the sleeve, second is adding puff to the upper & lower parts of the sleeve, and third is adding puff only to the lower part of the sleeve.
• Now, if you want to add puff only on the upper part of the sleeve, then do paper cutting as shown in figure(b) below.

• After that, if you want to add puff on the upper & lower part of the sleeve, then do paper cutting as shown in figure(c) below.
• When the sleeve has a puff on the lower part, then you have to put a strip or elastic on the sleeve round(mori).

• At last, we will learn how to add puff only at the lower part of the sleeve by looking at the figure(d) below.

• Add 3″ to the sleeve round side and then place the sleeve round measurement strip separately.
• Here, the puff has been increased by 3-4″; if you want to have more puff in it, you have to increase it more.
• In this way, variation can be made by increasing the puff in different places and keeping different measurements in the length.

Other Objectives:

• Puff sleeves can be designed in different patterns.
• For example, different looks come according to the length and size of the puff.
• This puff sleeve cutting is for any regular kurti, or top-like shirt, short kurti, short top, etc.
