Required Measurements For Umbrella Flare Lehenga Cutting:

Here is the method to take body measurements.

  • Full Length – from the waist till the length to be kept

Steps with the figure:

  • Let’s take an example with measurements as given below:
    • Length: 40″
    • Waist: 34″
  • Do the cutting of the same length as the lehenga is to be made.
  • Because as much as the part of the belt comes up, the fabric is bent down.
  • If you want to keep a fixed measurement in the belt waist, you have to put a zip in the side of the lehenga and if kept loose, it can be done without a zip.
  • For keeping the fixed belt, take 1/2 of the waist & add 2″ to that.
    • Fix Belt = 34″/2 = 17″+2 = 19″
  • For keeping a loose belt, take 1/2 of the waist & add 5″ to that.
    • Loos Belt = 34″/2 = 17″+5 = 22″
  • Here we will see the cutting of the lehenga according to the fixed belt i.e. 19″ belt.
  • Then make a fold from the corner and fold it into a triangle so the fabric will form 2 folds.
  • As shown in the figure, take 1/4 of the waist & add 1″ to the triangle side.
    • Measurement = 34″/4 = 8.5″+1 = 9.5″
  • From where we want to fit the belt, the length is to be 40″, and all the space in the round is to be 40″.
  • In the cutting of the umbrella lehenga, whenever the length is more, then join the triangle in the side.

  • The cutting of the belt has to be done from the fabric left in the side and the belt will be 38*4.
  • If we cut the folded part of the belt, it will be 19*4.
  • In this way, a single umbrella flare lehenga is made when the umbrella flare is done.
  • 5.5m of fabric is required to make a double umbrella flare.
  • The cutting of the belt remains as it is.
  • In a double flare, the waist cut is half of the single i.e. 9.5″ half 4.75″.
  • Even in fabric, 4 folds are to be taken instead of 2 folds of fabric.

Objectives:

  • A saree can also be used to make an umbrella flare lehenga.
  • Making a lehenga out of a saree requires a 2.5m lining of 36″ width.
  • Cotton or poplin fabric is used in lehengas to wear in Navratri & they don’t require lining.
  • As this fabric is thick, mirror work, kutchi work, or lace strip can be easily applied to it.
