Sharara cutting method with body measurements

We have already learned the cutting methods of simple salwar, straight pant, palazzo pant, and dhoti pant.
Today, we will learn the ladies’ sharara cutting method with all the respective body measurements.

The upper cutting method near the seat in Sharara is like a palazzo pant.
There are 1, 2, or 3 layers below the knee.
You have to take 3-4m of fabric to make sharara.
You need more fabric if you want to keep more layers or flares.
Flexible fabrics such as linen, georgette, or chiffon go well with sharara.

Required Measurements For Simple Salwar Cutting:

Here is the method to take body measurements.

  • Full Length – from the waist to the floor
  • Waist – all-around measurement in the waist area
  • Seat – full rotating measure in part of the seat

Method:

  • After taking measurements, fold the fabric 2 times.
  • In Sharara cutting, the front and back sides are kept the same.

Steps with the figure:

  • Let’s take an example with measurements as given below:
    • Length: 40″
    • Waist: 34″
    • Seat: 42″
  • For above-knee cutting, take a knee height of 18-20, as shown in figure(a).
  • For crotch(joro) length take 1/4 of the seat and add 3.5″.
    • Crotch(joro) length = 42″/4 = 10.5″+3.5 = 14″
  • For crotch(joro) width take 1/4 of the set, add 2″, and give the turn of 1.5″, particularly mentioned in figure(a).
    • Crotch(joro) width = 42″/4 = 10.5″+2 = 12.5″+1.5 = 14″
  • That means crotch(joro) length and crotch(joro) width will be the same.
  • Calculate the belt separately for the elastic i.e. 2″ for the waist.
  • Total length is calculated as : from waist to knee + from knee to floor length = 18″+22″ = 40″
  • Hence, 18″ is from waist to knee in which 2″ is included for the waist belt and 22″ is for the particular layer from knee to floor length, so this way it makes a total length of 40″.

Sharara Cutting Method

  • Now, if you want to make one layer, then subtract the length taken in the cutting from the total length.
    • One layer = total length – above knee length = 40″-18″ = 22″
  • After that, add 2″ to fold it down, as shown in below figure(b).
    • One layer = 22″+2(stitching) = 24″
  • Therefore, 24″ in the total length of one layer.
  • After determining the length in cutting the fabric of the layers, it can be taken in proportion to the width of the flare to be kept.
  • The lower part should be taken 10-15″ more than the crotch(joro) width.
  • We can take more if we want to make more flares.
  • So, as explained in figure(b), we will keep the fabric of 23″ or more to make the pleats for the layer.

Sharara Cutting Method

  • In 2 layers, after subtracting the length of the knee from the total length, divide it into 2 parts, so there are 2 layers.
  • Add 1″ to all seams(stitching).
  • Take 4″ width cloth to make the upper belt in sharara.
  • Rubber cutting is done according to the waist measurement.
  • Sharara can be made in different layers, as designed in figure(c).
  • As many layers are to be done, the cutting will be slightly different.

Other Objectives:

  • Sharara is a bottom garment.
  • A short kurti(top) or regular kurti looks good with sharara.
  • Peplum style can also be worn with sharara.
  • Any creative design like lace can also be placed in the layers below.

Conclusion:

  • I hope this method of drafting the sharara will help you make a perfect, comfortable & designer sharara.
