Crop top cutting with body measurements
In the past few days, we have learned about the kurti, pant, palazzo, different types of collars pattern, etc.
Today, we will move towards some different concepts i.e. blouse.
So, we have a blouse with tucks which can also be called a crop top.
In this session, we are going to learn the crop top cutting method with all the respective body measurements.
Different types of fabric can be used to make crop tops.
You have to take 1m of fabric for crop top.
Required Measurements For Crop Top Cutting:
Today we will learn how to cut a crop top with tucks with a boat-neck from body measurement.
Here is the method to take body measurements.
- Length – measure from shoulder to waist
- Shoulder – measure from the back side from left to right covering the whole shoulder
- Chest – measure from the top of the breast in a round
- Waist – measure the thinnest part of the waist and take measurements in round
- The sleeve-cutting method is the same for every garment.
Method:
- If you want to keep the hook in the front, then fold the back part.
- And, if you want to keep the hook in the back, then fold the front part.
- Increase 0.5″ wherever you want to keep the hook.
Steps with the figure:
- Now after taking the updated measurement take a sample of any measurement to know how much more fabric to cut for sewing.
- Length: 15″
- Shoulder: 16″
- Chest: 38″
- Waist: 32″
- First, we need to cut the back side.
- There is a boat neck for cutting the back side, so it takes the entire shoulder of the body.
- Shoulder = 16″
- In the blouse or crop top, the shoulder and armhole should be smaller or larger according to the length and pattern of the back neck.
- Taking the neck width 1″ more than regular in a boat neck means taking 1/12 from the chest and adding 1″.
- Neck width = 38″/12 = 3.17″+1 = 4.17″(approx. 4.5″)
- Neck length can be taken 3-4″ as desired, as shown in figure(a).
- Neck length = 3.5″
- For the armhole, take 1/6 of the chest and add 1″.
- Armhole = 38″/6 = 6.4″+1 = 7.4
- For chest width, take 1/4 of the chest and add 2″.
- Chest = 38″/4 = 9.5″+2 = 11.5″
- As mentioned in figure(a), for waist width, take 1/4 of the waist and add 3″ to that.
- Waist = 32″/4 = 8″+3 = 11″
- Here we have added 3″ to the waist, as we have to allow 1″ for back side tucks.
- The back pattern can also be done, the regular pattern is shown in figure(b) below.
- After cutting the back part, the front part is kept over it, but the only difference is to keep more tucks on the front side.
- As shown in figure(c), increase the front part by 0.5″ on both sides for 1″ tucks from the waist and also increase by 0.5″ below the place where the tucks are taken.
- Bigger tucks are taken on the front side than on the back side.
- Front tucks keeping 1/10th of the chest then add 0.5″ to that.
- Front tucks = 38″/10 = 3.8″+0.5 = 4.3″
- Back side tucks can be taken according to the fitting of individuals, one can start from 1″.
- That is 4.3″ away from the strip, as explained in figure(c).
- According to the length of the blouse from the top, 9.5″-10.5″ should be taken.
- Many cutting methods in blouse or crop top are different according to the shoulder measurement.
- Cutting the front armhole in the front part, cutting the back armhole in the back part.
- Keep the open part where you want to keep the hook.
- And take the rest of the side folded.
- In this way, perfect cutting of crop top can be done.
Other Objectives:
- Any garment can be worn with a crop top i.e. lahenga(chaniyo), palazzo pant, straight pant, dhoti pant, any type of skirts like umbrella skirt or pleated skirt, sharara, etc.
- Many patterns can be done in a crop top.
- The rules are also different, which we will further learn in more depth.
- The cutting of the boat neck in the blouse has to be done in the same way as learned in the cutting of a regular kurti.
