Perfect Body Measurements for Shoulder & Armhole
If you are having trouble for a perfect fit for the armhole, then follow these easy steps.
Today we will see how the armhole and shoulder are perfect according to the pattern of the garment from the body measurement.
In this session, we are going to learn the perfect body measurements for the shoulder & armhole.
How to measure the shoulder?
Measurement from the back side from left to right covering the whole shoulder.
How to measure the armhole?
Measure in the round near the joint of the hand.
While making any garment, the shoulder measurement taken from the body is not taken in directly in cutting.
According to the length of the neck of the back side of the garment, the shoulder has to be taken more or less.
When we have a collared neck, packed back neck, or boat-neck in kurti, blouse, one-piece, frock, etc. the full shoulder measurement of the body is taken.
As the length of the back neck is more, the shoulder and armhole have to be taken less.
Steps to be followed:
- Let’s understand from the following example how to take perfect shoulder & armhole measurements.
- Shoulder – measure from the back side from left to right covering the whole shoulder
- Chest – measure from the top of the breast in a round
- Armhole Round – measure in the round near the joint of the hand
- Now after taking the updated measurement take a sample of any measurement.
- Shoulder = 16″
- Chest = 38″
- Armhole = 17″
- The method of cutting is shown in figure(b) below when collared, boat-neck, or packed back neck is 0.5-1″ in any garment.
- Here, the armhole is taken 1/4 of the chest and after 2.5″ it has to be subtracted.
- Armhole = 38″/4 = 9.5″-2.5″ = 7.5″
- For chest measurement, take 1/4 of the chest and add 2″ to that.
- Chest = 38″/4 = 9.5″+2 = 11.5″
- At last, for the armhole round, take 1/2 of the armhole measurement.
- Armhole Round = 17″/2 = 8.5″
- According to this rule, sometimes when the arms are thick according to the body, it does not fit properly, so take the measurement of the chest and the armhole in the round.
- Now, we have to see that in the pack neck, the shoulder is perfect, meaning 8″ is to be taken in the cutting, while the armhole is 7.5″.
- For example, as shown in figure(c), when the length of the back neck is taken 3″, then the shoulder is 15″ means 7.5″ and the armhole is 7″.
- Similarly in figure(d), when the back neck is 6-7″, a shoulder length of 14″ means 7″ and an armhole of 6.5″.
- In this way from figure(e), the length of the neck in the low neck of the blouse is 9-10″, so the shoulder is 13″, and the armhole 6″ has to be taken.
- When the back neck is 3″ in length, then decrease the shoulder by 1″ and the armhole by 0.5″.
- In kurti, blouse or one-piece, this rule should be followed, and decide shoulder and armhole accordingly.
- When the neck is very low, the chest also has to be reduced.
- That is, if the chest is 11.5″ in the pack neck, then the chest is 11″ in the low neck.
- Armhole round measurement is the same for all and is only measured one time, just the armhole measurement is different for every shoulder measurement.
Conclusion:
- I hope this session for perfect body measurements for the shoulder & armhole will help you better with any cutting method.
