Alia Cut Kurti Cutting Method
Previously, we have seen the Regular Kurti Cutting, Kaftan Kurti Cutting & Angrakha Kurti Cutting.
Today, we will learn the trending Alia Cut Kurti Cutting Method.
A regular straight kurti has only one continuous cutting, but an Alia cut kurti has two cuttings, the top and the bottom flare.
Chiffon, georgette, or rayon fabrics are mostly used in this kurti.
If one wants to make it more stylish, mirror work can also be done on it.
Different patterns can also be done on the sleeves.
For making an alia cut kurti, we will take 3-3.5m of fabric.
Required Measurements For Alia Cut Kurti Cutting Method:
Here is the method to take body measurements.
- Total Length – measure from the shoulder to the length needed to be kept
- Top length of kurti – measure from the shoulder to waist
- Bottom flare length of kurti – from waist till length to be kept
- Shoulder – measure from the back side from left to right, covering the whole shoulder
- Chest – measure from the upper part of the breast in a round
- Waist – measure the thinnest part of the waist and take measurements in rounds
- Armhole Round – measure in the round near the joint of the hand
- The sleeve-cutting method is the same for every garment.
Steps with figure:
- Now, after taking the updated measurement, take a sample of any measurement to know how much more fabric to cut for sewing.
- Total Length: 45″
- Top part of kurti Length(kotho): 15″
- Bottom Flare Length: total length-top length= 45″-15″= 30″
- Shoulder: 15″
- Chest: 36″
- Waist: 34″
- Armhole: 6.5″
-
First, we need to cut the upper part of the kurti, as shown in figure(a) below.
-
We have to cut the 2 folded parts.
-
Adding 1″ of seam allowance to the upper part of the length.
-
Top Length = 15″+1 = 16″
-
-
Shoulders are 15″, as per the rule, shoulder cutting should be made according to the length of the back neck.

From figure(a), for chest measurement, take 1/4th of the chest and 2″ to that.
-
Chest = 36″/4 = 9″+2 = 11″
-
-
And for the waist, take 1/4th of the waist and add 2″ to that.
-
Waist = 34″/4 = 8.5″+2 = 10.5″
-
-
This has a different cut in the front than the regular kurti.
-
Make a 4″ cut from the front of the top part of the kurti, as shown in the figure(a).
- In the same way, cut 4″ in the (flare)bottom part of the kurti.
- Measure the width of the flare according to the waist.
- Calculate the flare twice; if the waist cut is 21″, then the flare can be taken more than 42″.
- Waist = 21″
- If you want to do more flare, you can also take 3 times the waist.
- Flare cutting is done according to the figure(b) below.
- For that, make a line for the 4″ pattern in the cutting of the flare, as explained in figure(b).
- Now, after cutting both parts of the kurti, join as shown in the figure(c).
