Angrakha Style Kurti
The Angrakha Style Kurti is a traditional upper garment with an overlap at the chest tied to the left or right shoulder.
Angrakhas are widely popular among women and men and can be long or short.
Previously, in regular kurti we learned different collar patterns and neck patterns.
Like a stand collar, halter collar(high neck), blazer(coat) collar, patta collar, half patta collar, shirt collar and shirt(double) collar.
Today we will learn angrakha style kurti.
Required Measurements For Angrakha Style Kurti Cutting:
Here is the method to take body measurements.
- Chest – measure from the top of the breast in a round
- Waist – measure 7-8″ below the chest till the thinnest part of the waist and take
- Shoulder – measure from the back side from left to right covering the whole shoulder
- Armhole – measure in the round near the joint of the hand
- A-line Length – measure from shoulder to upper waist or waist according to your choice
Steps with the figure:
- Backside cutting is done in Angrakha kurti as we have learned in regular kurti & a-line(kotho-in Gujarati) can also be done.
- Angarkha pattern is made by making a-line(kotho) in the frontside cutting.
- Let’s learn to frontside A-line cutting.
- Sleeve cutting is done in the same way as we have already learned.
- After taking the updated measurement take a sample of any measurement to know how much more fabric to cut for sewing.
- Chest: 36″
- Waist: 32″
- Shoulder: 15″
- Armhole: 7″
- A-line Length: 15″
- You have to take 1/4 of the chest and add 2″ to that, as explained in figure(a).
- Chest Measurement = 36″/4 = 9″+2 = 11″
- Then take 1/4 of the waist and add 2″ to that.
- Waist Measurement = 32″/4 = 8″+2 = 10″
- After that, you have to take a-line length to add 1″ for stitching.
- Length = 15″+1 = 16″
- Always do paper cutting first then do fabric cutting.
- Cutting the back side as shown in the figure(a).
- In it, first cut the curve of the back side of the armhole put the back part on the fabric, and then cut the fabric.
- Then cut the curve of the armhole of the front side in the paper.
- In angrakha style v-neck is to be done, then open the paper and draw the front part as shown in figure(b).
- You have to use fabric that has the right mark for further cutting.
- Keeping the length of the v-neck 7-7.5″, cut the paper as shown in figure(c) in which the v-neck is made.
- Keep this part in the fabric and divide it into two parts.
- Then arrange both the cutout parts of the fabric as shown in figure(d) below.
- After that, while stitching, make a hole and make a lace in the side of the kurti.
- Figure(e) shows the final look of angrakha style kurti.
